Many people know Douglas Lim for his comedic commentary about all things Malaysian. They know his thoughts about politics, social norms, traditions, food, etc… They know this because he’s been talking about it for the last 18 years!
But what about his personal story? His half naked debut in theater? His misadventures in the world of TV and film? His testosterone level?
VITAL STATS is Douglas Lim’s brand-new show for 2026. And after 18 years of stand-up comedy, he’s ready to talk about himself.
It will be funny. It will be surprising. It will be personal.
Filmed live in Dewan Filharmonik Petronas, now
premiering exclusively on YouTube
in conjunction with the 10th Anniversary of
Hilarity Ensues
Kuala Lumpur, 14
December 2025 – Ready for a good roast? There’s nothing Malaysians
love more than local humour and there’s no one who can do it better than
Douglas Lim. A veteran of over 25 years, Lim delivers his best material yet
with Douglas Lim’s Comedy Special – Made in Malaysia, premiering
on 14 December 2025, via his official YouTube channel, @thedouglaslim, as he
marks the 10th anniversary of his company, Hilarity Ensues.
Part comedian,
part chameleon, Lim’s creative talents are varied, from screen actor to
composer and lyricist, but his true home is on the stage, with microphone in
hand.
Now, after a
flurry of comedy showcases and screen appearances, Lim is firmly back in the
saddle with his perspective of what it means to live, breathe and love
Malaysia, with observations that are occasionally embarrassing, sometimes
scathing, and always true to the peculiarities of local culture.
“My brand of
humour has always been uniquely Malaysian, and often something only Malaysians
can appreciate – like an insider joke. Now, I want to bring this experience to
an international audience, so they can be entertained and appreciate comedy
through the lens of someone like me, a comedian who is proudly Made in
Malaysia,” said Lim.
Douglas Lim’s
Comedy Special – Made in Malaysia was first performed
in front of a live audience in 2024 at the prestigious Dewan Filharmonik
Petronas. He was the first ever stand-up comedian to perform a solo show at the
esteemed venue, with three sold-out shows.
Continuing into
2025, the tour received rave reviews at every destination of its 10-city tour
across Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, Hong Kong, and Indonesia. Its debut on
YouTube is a strategic decision, explained Lim, who leaned into social and
digital content during the pandemic and welcomed new viewers from around the
world.
“The last few
years have introduced me to a much larger online community and brought me out
of my bubble. Encountering viewers from different cultures has showed me
diverse perspectives, and this has added to the breadth and depth of my
material. Ultimately, this was the driving force for me to bring this
performance to the world on an accessible platform like YouTube that can fully
showcase long form comedy, and to do so in celebration of the 10th
anniversary of Hilarity Ensues.”
Meanwhile, Lim
is already working on a fresh solo tour, Douglas Lim: Vital Stats,
which offers a more personal glimpse on his journey in the whacky world of
Malaysian entertainment. Kicking off in 2026, destinations will include
Australia and New Zealand, including an extended run at the Melbourne
International Comedy Festival in April, with shows planned across Malaysia,
Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and beyond.

"I will
be putting on a special show, "The Music Kena Sound", and it's unlike
my usual stand-up comedy. I will be performing a selection of popular
songs, and giving my unique, comedic take on them."
